You may have seen the articles about a recent study on caffeine and breastfeeding circulating earlier this month. When I saw the articles covered far and wide by several news sources (here, here, and here), I was so pleased! According to the Brazil based study published in Pediatrics, caffeine consumption does not seem to effect infants’ sleep patterns. Can we please finally put to rest the baseless guilt trip mothers have endured regarding their caffeine drinking habit’s effect on their babies’ sleep patterns? You can read more about the many inconclusive (and conflicting) studies on the possible effects of caffeine consumption on other maternal and child health outcomes here and here.
